Outspoken lawyer and political activist Miguna Miguna is set to make a highly anticipated appearance on Citizen TV, following the station’s decision to grant his request for an exclusive interview.
The development comes in the wake of a recent interview with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, which Miguna claims was riddled with distortions, omissions, and unchecked falsehoods.

Miguna, who is currently based in Ontario, Canada, wrote directly to Citizen TV’s editorial leadership on Wednesday, July 2, demanding equal airtime to respond to Matiang’i’s remarks regarding events that took place during his time in government between 2013 and 2022.
He issued a strongly worded statement on social media, saying:

“Because Citizen TV gave Fred Okeng’o Matiang’i an exclusive platform to lie about all the atrocities he presided over between 2013 and 2022 with hardly any significant challenges by Sam Gituku, I request an opportunity for an exclusive interview as a rejoinder because I was one of his victims.”
Miguna emphasized that he preferred the interview to be conducted live, though remotely, due to his current residence abroad.
Within hours of the public demand, he received confirmation from Linus Kaikai, the Head of Editorial at Royal Media Services (RMS), that his request had been accepted. According to the response, RMS Managing Director Wachira Waruru had also approved the interview.
“Wachira and I have received your request for an interview on Citizen TV. We are delighted to confirm that you will be availed the interview opportunity within the next 7 days. See you live on Citizen TV!” Kaikai wrote.
Miguna’s tensions with Matiang’i trace back to January 30, 2018, when he administered the controversial “swearing-in” of opposition leader Raila Odinga as the “People’s President” at Uhuru Park.
Days later, Miguna was arrested under Matiang’i’s orders, detained incommunicado, and later deported. The government accused him of treason and claimed he had lost his Kenyan citizenship after acquiring Canadian nationality in 1988.
Miguna vehemently rejected those claims. He maintained that he is a Kenyan by birth and that he never renounced his citizenship. Despite multiple court orders affirming his right to remain in the country, the state forcefully deported him, twice, and in one instance allegedly drugged and restrained him before flying him out of Nairobi.
His dramatic standoff at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, followed by international condemnation and legal battles, made headlines globally. Miguna insists his deportation and mistreatment were illegal and politically motivated to silence dissent.
With Matiang’i now revealing plans to run for the presidency in 2027, Miguna’s upcoming interview on Citizen TV is expected to revisit these events in detail, raising serious questions about governance, human rights, and accountability.
The interview, expected within the week, promises to be fiery, unfiltered, and possibly historic, especially as Miguna prepares to confront his long-time political nemesis on the same platform where he believes the truth was distorted.
