Moses Kuria, a prominent advisor within President William Ruto’s Council of Economic Advisors (CEA), has sparked fresh political debate after hinting at a potential presidential bid in the 2027 general elections. Kuria, who served as Gatundu South MP from 2014 to 2022, made the revelations during a televised interview on Citizen TV, signaling a significant return to elective politics.

“There is a possibility that I will run for president in 2027,” Kuria stated confidently. “I am more than ready and have all the necessary qualifications. The only position I cannot vie for is Woman Representative of Kiambu.”

Kuria cited his extensive experience in governance, private sector leadership, and frontline politics as a strong foundation for a presidential run, emphasizing the urgent need for unifying leadership in a politically polarized Kenya.

When pressed on which political vehicle he plans to use, Kuria confirmed he is in active discussions with the Jubilee Party, once led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Notably, he has also expressed interest in vying for the party’s Secretary General post.

“We are talking with Jubilee,” Kuria said. “But I have my own party, Chama Cha Kazi, and I’ve given them an offer. If Jubilee does not align with my vision, I’ll have no choice but to revive it.”

Kuria made it clear that he remains open to coalitions and political partnerships, but would not hesitate to go it alone if necessary.

If elected president, Kuria said his administration would prioritize health care, agricultural reforms, youth employment, and inclusive economic mobility, key areas that continue to resonate with many Kenyans amid ongoing economic challenges.

“My mission is to make a difference, even if it’s for just one day,” he added.

While affirming his commitment to national unity, Kuria didn’t shy away from criticizing some government operatives whom he accused of hiring goons to disrupt peaceful protests, especially those led by young people seeking accountability.

Moses Kuria entered Parliament in 2014 through a by-election, succeeding the late Jossy Ngugi as MP for Gatundu South. Initially elected under The National Alliance (TNA), he retained the seat in 2017 under the Jubilee Party and served until 2022. He later served briefly as Cabinet Secretary for Trade under President Ruto’s administration.
