Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has alleged that he was assaulted by Kileleshwa Ward MCA Robert Alai during a confrontation at a restaurant along Lenana Road in Kilimani, Nairobi.
According to Owino, the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon as he was leaving the restaurant after a private meeting with a senior clergyman. He claims that an encounter with the MCA, who was seated at a nearby table with other individuals, quickly escalated into a heated exchange.
In a statement recorded with police, the MP alleged that the MCA accused him of being behind social media attacks targeting the MCA’s wife, claims Owino has strongly denied. He said the confrontation turned violent when the MCA allegedly pushed him, drew a firearm, and struck him on the chest and jaw. Owino further claimed that after the situation briefly calmed, the MCA poured a glass of water on his face in full view of other patrons.
Owino said he left the restaurant to avoid further escalation and reported the matter at Kilimani Police Station. Police have since launched investigations into the incident, including reviewing CCTV footage and recording witness statements.
The MP described the incident as unprovoked and termed it a serious threat to his safety, calling on authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate legal action. He also suggested the altercation may be linked to heightened political tensions.
As of the time of publication, police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing. The MCA had not issued an official response to the allegations.
