According to a Ministry of Health update released on Monday, June 9, Busia recorded the highest number of infections at 48, followed by Mombasa with 37 and Nakuru with 16 cases.

Additional counties with confirmed cases include Nairobi, Makueni, Kajiado, Bungoma, Taita Taveta, Kilifi, Kericho, Kiambu, Uasin Gishu, Migori, Machakos, Isiolo, Kisii, and Kirinyaga.

Principal Secretary Mary Muriuki stated that 400 individuals had been identified as contacts of confirmed cases. Of these, 315 were observed for 21 days, resulting in 15 new infections. Out of 597 samples tested at the National Public Health Laboratory and its partner institutions, 137 tested positive.

“We’re now detecting more cases beyond the Northern transport corridor,” Muriuki added.

The ministry has screened over 4.8 million travelers at border points. Those showing symptoms are isolated and further examined.

In response to the outbreak, authorities have intensified contact tracing, case investigations, and treatment. A national awareness drive has also been launched via mobile platforms.

Muriuki encouraged the public to seek information and assistance by calling 719 or dialing *719# free of charge.

The Ministry of Health reaffirmed its collaboration with county governments and other partners to manage and contain the spread of the disease.
