Nakuru, Kenya, A mother in Bondeni, Nakuru County is living every parent’s worst nightmare, her son, Mohammed Sheriff, has now been missing for 10 days under chilling and mysterious circumstances.

At around 2 p.m. that day, Abud received a call from an unknown number. Her son’s voice was on the other end, shaken, and afraid.
“He told me he had been taken by unknown people. I asked if I should call the police. He said, ‘Not yet. If I don’t return in two days, call this number,’” Abud painfully recalled.

“He left to buy me medicine,” says a mother. “He never came back.”
The number belonged to Nakuru Central Police Station OCS Samuel Chebii, and strangely, Sheriff had handed it to his mother three days before the incident, along with his ID number.
“He is a joker, so I didn’t take him seriously,” Abud said through tears, clutching the paper like a lifeline.
Since that chilling call, Sheriff’s phone has been switched off. And his whereabouts? Still unknown.
The heartbreak doesn’t end there. Sheriff, 47, had been living a modest life, selling his clothes and even shoes to provide food for his mother. With no criminal record and a known heart for his family, his sudden disappearance raises more questions than answers.
Adding to the mystery, Sheriff was reportedly involved in an ongoing inheritance dispute in court, leading some to question whether his disappearance could be tied to that case.
His mother now begs the government to intervene.
“I beseech the government to investigate because the government is our friend. We can’t move forward if we push each other away,” she said.
The story has triggered a wave of empathy and anger across social media. Users shared their frustrations and sorrow in emotional comments:
@Albertdoessomething: “Imagine this lady believes the government is our friend. It hurts.”
@sarahwanjiku7966: “What is happening in our homeland Kenya? God, protect your people.”
@mwas-x9t2s: “This pain is tearing the nation apart. Either the president fixes the country or gives others a chance. This is too much for people to bear.”
As Sheriff’s family holds onto hope, another family in Murang’a County is facing a similar nightmare. Erick Joseph Irugu, a Cooperative University student, has also vanished, missing since Sunday, April 13, 2025. Despite extensive searches, his family has yet to receive any solid leads.
As investigations continue, one truth remains: the agony of mothers like Abud reflects a deeper crisis of trust, safety, and justice in Kenya.
