This photo was taken during a 2024 visit to Kenya and features a monument we’ve mentioned before. Here’s a deeper look into its history and significance.

  1. Historical Background

The Galton Fenzi Memorial, erected in 1939, is one of Nairobi’s oldest landmarks. It features a large globe atop a cubical base inscribed with the names and distances to cities across Kenya and Africa, including Kisumu, Kampala, Cape Town, Khartoum, and Cairo. The monument marks Nairobi’s original central point.

  1. The Council of Jeep (Dare Jacobo)

The photo shows seven elders dressed in white robes. These are members of the Council of Jeep (Dare reJacobo), based in Heartfield, Harare, Zimbabwe. They work in partnership with Dare Peter, based in Nairobi. Together, they oversee branches of the Gospel of God Church worldwide.

“Dare” is Shona for council or court, equivalent to Baraza in Kiswahili.

This council model was introduced by Baba Johane, founder of the church, as an alternative to traditional church hierarchies (like bishops or popes).

The Dare Jacobo (Council of Jacob) was created to ensure oversight and unity across Zimbabwe, while Dare Peter (Council of Peter), first formed in South Africa, represented the founder’s council, with Nairobi playing a key spiritual role.

The name “Jeep” originates from the type of vehicle used by the council to travel across tough terrain. Locally, it became known as Jipi.

  1. Galton Fenzi – Why the Monument?

Galton Fenzi was a pioneer of road travel in Kenya. In 1919, he founded the East Africa Automobile Association and was the first to drive from Mombasa to Nairobi in 1926. He helped establish driving laws and improve infrastructure, making this monument a tribute to his legacy.

  1. Why It’s Called Point Zero or Millenary Stone

The term “Millenary” stems from the Roman mile and relates to measuring distances. This monument is Nairobi’s Point Zero, the official reference point from which distances to all other towns in Kenya are calculated. So when you hear, “Limuru is 37 km from Nairobi,” that measurement starts here, not from the airport or parliament.

  1. Spiritual Meaning

Beyond transportation history, the monument holds deep spiritual symbolism for the Gospel of God Church:

Baba Johane once gave instructions using this monument’s location, even before he physically came to Kenya.

The globe features celestial imagery, suns, stars, and the moon, all carrying symbolic meaning.

The sun represents God (or Baba Johane as His emissary).

The moon symbolizes the Church’s covenantal institution, often represented by female figures (mothers).

Stars are interpreted as angels, based on Revelation 1:20.

These align with Joseph’s dream (Genesis), where the sun, moon, and stars symbolized family members and divine order.

A scripture, Isaiah 35:8 (“And a highway shall be there”), is inscribed on the eastern side, reinforcing the idea of a spiritual journey from south to north, echoing Isaiah 19:23-24 and linking the monument to prophetic visions about Africa.

For those who believe, this monument is a marker of God’s presence in the land, a physical symbol of spiritual truths. Alternative perspectives are welcome (especially on our Facebook page), but spam, especially ads promoting witchcraft, will be removed immediately.
