Nairobi residents and online audiences have been left in awe after a man went the extra mile to celebrate his wife’s birthday by erecting a giant roadside billboard, a rare and bold public display of love that quickly went viral.
The billboard, mounted along Kiambu Road near Ciata Mall, featured a large portrait of the woman alongside a heartfelt birthday message, drawing the attention of motorists, pedestrians and social media users alike. The man, identified as Nahashon Waweru, revealed that the billboard was meant to honour his wife, Maria Nyambane, not only on her birthday but also for her role as a supportive partner, mother and creative professional.
According to Waweru, the idea was born out of a desire to publicly appreciate his wife and celebrate her achievements in a way that would leave a lasting memory.
“I wanted her to feel seen, appreciated and celebrated,” he said, adding that the plan took several months of preparation before finally being executed.
Maria was reportedly taken to the site blindfolded, and when she finally saw the billboard, she was overwhelmed with emotion, breaking down in tears as onlookers watched. The touching moment was captured on video and widely shared online, further fuelling the story’s popularity.
