One person has been confirmed dead while scores of others were seriously injured following a stampede at Nigerian music star Asake’s concert held at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi on Saturday night.
The tragic incident occurred outside the stadium as thousands of fans thronged the venue for the highly anticipated show. Witnesses said chaos erupted at one of the entry points after prolonged delays in opening the gates, triggering panic and a sudden rush as concertgoers attempted to force their way in.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, the crowd surge led to several people being trampled. A woman was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival, while dozens of others sustained injuries ranging from fractures to breathing complications. The injured were taken to various hospitals within the city for emergency treatment.
Concertgoers blamed the incident on poor crowd control and inadequate security arrangements, claiming there was confusion at the gates and a lack of clear communication from event organizers.
