The Ministry of Education has received more than 100,000 requests for Grade 10 placement changes on the first day of the official review window, Principal Secretary Julius Bitok has confirmed.
The review period, which began Tuesday, December 23, allows learners and parents to request corrections or adjustments to initial senior school placements issued following the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA). This is part of the country’s transition to the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system, which aligns learners with appropriate senior school pathways, including STEM, Social Sciences, Arts, and Sports.
According to PS Bitok, about 2,000 requests had already been processed and approved on the opening day, with the remainder under review. He acknowledged minor technical issues with the online system early in the day but assured that the system was now running smoothly.
“The high volume of requests shows the public’s keen interest in ensuring learners are placed in schools and pathways that match their performance and preferences,” said PS Bitok. “We are committed to processing all requests fairly and transparently.”
