For weeks, thousands had believed his prophecy that the world would end on December 25, prompting panic, mass movement and emotional decisions that have now left many grappling with painful consequences.

For some believers, the emotional toll has been heavy. Families that sold livestock, household items and even land in preparation for the rapture are now left struggling financially. Others abandoned jobs, closed small businesses or travelled long distances to Ghana believing they were securing a place of safety on the so-called ark. With Christmas passing quietly, many are now returning home empty-handed, burdened by debt and shame.

Psychologically, the impact has been equally damaging. Several followers have spoken of intense fear, sleepless nights and anxiety in the days leading up to Christmas, convinced they were living through humanity’s final hours.

The sudden reversal of the prophecy has left some confused and emotionally drained, while others feel deeply betrayed but remain hesitant to openly question the man they trusted as a prophet. The social effects have also been harsh. Believers report strained family ties and ridicule from friends who dismissed the prophecy from the beginning. In some communities, followers have withdrawn from social and religious gatherings, embarrassed by their association with what many now describe as a failed prediction.

Despite the disappointment, a section of followers continues to defend Ebo Noah, accepting his explanation that divine mercy delayed the event. Religious leaders and mental health experts, however, warn that repeated failed prophecies can trap followers in cycles of fear and blind faith, exposing them to emotional, psychological and financial harm.

As life slowly returns to normal after Christmas, many believers are left picking up the pieces, financially strained, emotionally shaken and spiritually conflicted.

The episode has reignited debate across the region about the dangers of unchecked prophetic claims and the lasting damage they can inflict on vulnerable people searching for hope in uncertain times.
