In a summer full of drama, transfers, and rising stars, Manchester United’s 4-1 win over Bournemouth in Chicago was more than just a friendly match. It was a clear signal: 20-year-old Patrick Dorgu is ready to shine on the big stage. And head coach Ruben Amorim couldn’t be more impressed.

Patrick Dorgu, who arrived from Italian side Lecce back in February, made a big statement in this pre-season clash. In just eight minutes, he set up striker Rasmus Hojlund for United’s opening goal. Then, less than 20 minutes later, Dorgu stole the spotlight by scoring his first goal for the Red Devils.

The goal wasn’t just lucky, it showed real quality. It started with a quick free-kick by Mason Mount. Dorgu burst forward with strength, shook off his defender, and coolly slotted the ball past Bournemouth’s Djordje Petrovic. The United fans in Chicago erupted, and so did the praise from his manager.

“He is 20 years old. He looks more and more like he belongs in Manchester United,” said Ruben Amorim in his post-match interview with MUTV. “That is hard to do at 20 years old. He is so powerful, he is getting his technique in his game, he is defending so well, he is pressing so well, so I am really impressed with Patrick.”

This isn’t the first time Dorgu has caught Amorim’s eye. Last weekend, he delivered a solid performance against West Ham in New Jersey, constantly attacking from the left side. Amorim’s system demands a lot from wing-backs, but Dorgu is quickly rising to the challenge.

While Dorgu seems to be securing his future at Old Trafford, another Dane may not be as lucky. Rasmus Hojlund, who joined United with much excitement, could be heading for the exit. Amorim didn’t offer any clear promises when asked about the striker’s future.

“I’m really happy with Rasmus,” Amorim said. “But I don’t know what is going to happen until the end of the market. The important thing is that Rasmus is scoring goals. He’s connecting really well with the team. He’s improving.”

Hojlund has been working hard in pre-season and continues to score. But with United bringing in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, his place in the squad could be under threat. To add to the speculation, the club has shown interest in RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

The big question now is: can Hojlund survive the competition?

Cunha missed the Bournemouth game due to fatigue, but is expected to return soon. Meanwhile, fans will get their first look at Mbeumo when United face Everton in Atlanta on Sunday. These new additions bring more firepower to a team that struggled with goals last season, a fact Amorim didn’t ignore.

“We suffered a lot because of the lack of goals last season,” he admitted. “Now we are trying to fix that.”

Despite the excitement surrounding United’s attack, the game wasn’t without its mistakes. Veteran defender Harry Maguire was replaced at half-time by new signing Matthijs de Ligt. Unfortunately, De Ligt scored an own goal in the 88th minute, an awkward moment in an otherwise strong performance.

Still, the spotlight remains firmly on Dorgu. The young full-back’s pace, power, and composure are making fans dream of a new hero at Old Trafford. If he keeps performing like this, a starting spot in the Premier League may not be far away.

Ruben Amorim is clearly building something exciting at Manchester United. The team looks faster, hungrier, and more dangerous. And with young stars like Patrick Dorgu stepping up, the future looks bright—though it may not include everyone.

Hojlund’s situation will continue to dominate headlines until the transfer window closes. But for now, it’s Dorgu’s time to shine.
