Police have arrested six suspected members of the feared criminal gang infamously known as the “Kapenguria Six” in a coordinated security operation in Endebess Sub-County, Trans-Nzoia County, dealing a major blow to a group that had spread fear among residents.

The suspects were cornered following an intelligence-led operation mounted by security agencies after a surge in violent robberies and night raids in several villages, including Kaisheber, Nabeki and Cherubai. Locals had complained of constant attacks, with victims reporting intimidation, assaults and theft carried out under the cover of darkness.

According to police, the arrested suspects are Juma Wanjala, Samson Kapolon Ewoi, Thomas Esakon Lorongoi, Linus Wekesa Wasilwa, Moses Kisuya Wekesa and Ezra Simiyu Nyongesa. A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of three pangas, a jungle military belt and a beret, items believed to have been used to instill fear during their criminal activities.

Security officials say the gang had become a serious threat to peace in the region, with residents living in constant fear before the arrests. Police described the operation as a significant step in restoring calm and warned other criminal elements that similar crackdowns will continue.

Authorities were also quick to clarify that the criminal group has no connection whatsoever to the historic Kapenguria Six freedom fighters, whose legacy remains untarnished.
The suspects are currently being held in police custody as investigations continue and are expected to be arraigned in court to face various criminal charges.

Residents have welcomed the arrests, expressing relief and calling on police to sustain patrols to prevent any resurgence of gang activity in the area.
