President William Ruto has indicated the possibility of a future political collaboration between his party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as Kenya prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on 17 December 2025 at the 5th Piny Luo Festival held in Migori County, the Head of State said Kenya’s political future could include a mutual agreement between UDA and ODM ,but stressed that such cooperation would be conditional on both parties being strong, organised, and united.

President Ruto called on ODM to consolidate its internal structures and build its support base ahead of any negotiations.

“We want a strong ODM so that we can plan Kenyan affairs together,” he said, adding that he would also work to strengthen UDA and then “meet and form a government through agreement.”

His remarks were delivered amid a broader celebration of Luo culture, where Ruto and ODM leader Senator Oburu Oginga were among leaders crowned as Luo community elders ; a symbolic gesture of unity and cultural recognition.

The President also reflected on his historical ties with the ODM, acknowledging the role of the late Raila Odinga in shaping his political journey:

“I was a member of ODM.Raila is the one who taught us politics. I was his best student,” Ruto said.

The event drew a wide range of political figures, including Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, whose presence alongside Ruto and ODM leaders highlighted the growing political engagement between the two parties’ leadership.

While President Ruto stopped short of announcing a formal coalition or power‑sharing deal, his comments are being interpreted by political analysts as an early signal of strategic alignment ahead of the critical 2027 polls.
