Marcus Rashford has stunned Manchester United by turning up at pre-season training, despite being given the green light to delay his return as he explores a potential move away from Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old England international reported to Carrington on both Monday and Tuesday, according to The Athletic, even though he was one of five players told they could take additional time off amid ongoing transfer negotiations. Rashford worked individually and was not included in group sessions led by new boss Ruben Amorim.

The surprise move came just hours after United confirmed that £62.5 million summer signing Matheus Cunha had taken over the iconic No.10 shirt previously worn by Rashford, an announcement made via the club’s social media channels. The move signals a brutal new era under Amorim, who is eager to overhaul the attacking unit.
Rashford was part of a group that includes Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia, all of whom have reportedly expressed interest in leaving the club.

While player representatives have pushed back against these claims, United’s public stance suggests all five are available for transfer, and Carrington’s medical facilities have remained open to them during their extended summer breaks.
Among the five, Garnacho has drawn strong interest from Chelsea and Napoli, Antony is on Real Betis’ radar, and Sancho is rumoured to have agreed terms with Juventus. Malacia, however, appears to be struggling to attract suitors.
As for Rashford, his most serious suitor could be Barcelona. The Spanish giants are looking for alternatives after top target Nico Williams committed to a 10-year extension at Athletic Bilbao.
Reports from Spain claim that Rashford is even willing to slash his £325,000-per-week wages to join the Catalans. However, Barcelona would prefer a loan deal, while Manchester United are holding out for a £40 million permanent transfer.
United, under Amorim’s new leadership, are keen to raise funds before sanctioning any more signings. Beyond Cunha, the Red Devils are still in talks with Brentford over a potential £63 million deal for forward Bryan Mbeumo.
A move for Viktor Gyokeres, Amorim’s former player at Sporting Lisbon, now looks unlikely, with the Swedish striker poised to sign for Arsenal. United also lost out on Liam Delap, who joined Chelsea earlier in the window.
The big question now remains: should Rashford be given another chance at Manchester United, or is his time up under Amorim’s new regime? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
