Rasmus Hojlund Transfer Twist: European Giant Push for Loan as Man Utd Demand £40m Permanent Deal

AC Milan are in serious talks with Manchester United to sign young striker Rasmus Hojlund.

The Italian giants want to take Hojlund on a loan deal with an option to buy later. But Manchester United are not happy with that plan. They prefer a permanent transfer right away or at least a loan that includes a guaranteed permanent move at the end.

United are ready to sell the 22-year-old Denmark international if they receive an offer of around £40 million.

Hojlund’s future at Old Trafford is uncertain because of Manchester United’s big summer signing, Benjamin Sesko. The 22-year-old Slovenian striker joined from RB Leipzig for £73.7 million and is expected to take the main striker role in the team.

On Saturday, Manchester United played a pre-season friendly against Fiorentina. Hojlund, despite being the only recognised striker in the squad, did not play a single minute. He stayed on the bench for the whole game, the only first-team regular not to step onto the pitch.

Instead, United’s new head coach, Ruben Amorim, played Mason Mount as a false number nine. Speaking to MUTV after the game, Amorim admitted:

“We struggled without a reference as a striker. We have a new player, so we’ll see.”

Hojlund joined Manchester United from Atalanta in August 2023 for £72 million. At the time, he was seen as the future of United’s attack. But just one year later, it seems the club is ready to move him on.

The young striker has made it clear he wants to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place. But now, he finds himself on a growing list of players United are open to selling. This list includes Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia.

Benjamin Sesko was officially presented to the Manchester United fans on Saturday before the Fiorentina match. Even though he did not play, the excitement around him was clear.

The deal to sign Sesko includes an initial payment of £66.26 million (€76.5m) and up to £7.36 million (€8.5m) in performance-related bonuses.

Sesko is United’s third attacking signing this summer, after Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Together, these three signings have cost the club a massive £207.2 million.

Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth says that now Sesko has arrived, Manchester United are focusing on selling players.

AC Milan are pushing for Hojlund, Borussia Dortmund are still trying to sign Sancho, and Chelsea are expected to make a formal bid for Garnacho. Real Betis are also working on a deal for Antony.

Even though United are selling players, they are not done with signings yet. The club wants to stay ready in case a good market opportunity comes up.

One of United’s main targets is Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba. The club has explored how a deal could be done, but it will be difficult. Brighton do not want to sell and are under no pressure to do so.

Baleba has been out of action since mid-July with a small knee injury and has not played since Brighton’s pre-season win over Stoke City in Marbella.

As the transfer window moves on, all eyes are now on whether AC Milan can convince Manchester United to lower their demands for Hojlund, or if another club will come in with a £40m bid to seal the deal.

For Hojlund, the next few weeks could decide whether he fights for his place in Manchester or starts a new chapter in Italy.
