Minembwe, July 1, 2025 In a significant leadership update announced via an official press release on the X platform (@twirwaneho), the Republican Movement for the Dignity of the People (MRDP-Twirwaneho) has appointed Rev. Alexis N. Mugisha, former Senior Advisor of Mahoro Peace Association (MPA), as Second Vice President in charge of administrative, political, and diplomatic affairs.

Rev. Mugisha is a well-known figure in peace advocacy and intercommunity dialogue, particularly in relation to the Great Lakes region. His leadership has contributed to international awareness around issues such as ethnic discrimination, statelessness, and the dignity of historically marginalized communities, especially the Banyamulenge.

The press release also confirmed the appointment of Madame Adèle Kibasumba, former President of Mahoro Peace Association (Eastern Congo chapter), as Secretary General of MRDP-Twirwaneho. Kibasumba has been a leading voice in refugee rights, women’s empowerment, and grassroots mobilization within Congolese civil society.

Other key appointments include:

  • Professor Freddy Rukema Kaniki as President of MRDP-Twirwaneho;
  • General of Brigade Charles Sematama as First Vice President and Chief of General Staff of the Movement.

These appointments follow internal consultations concluded on April 18, 2025, and were endorsed by the Council of Elders as part of a broader effort to strengthen leadership and respond to urgent structural needs within the Movement.

“This reorganization is intended to reinforce MRDP-Twirwaneho’s mission of promoting dignity, justice, and protection for all communities facing violence and exclusion,” said Kamasa Ndakize Welcome, the Movement’s spokesperson.

The decision nullifies all previous appointments that contradict this new structure.
