Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu has accused Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu of abandoning Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and advancing a hidden political agenda amid rising tensions following the death of opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking earlier this week, Senator Nyutu said the two leaders—once considered strong allies of Gachagua—appear to have shifted their loyalty and are now acting on behalf of unnamed political forces.
“Governor Kahiga and Ngunjiri Wambugu no longer support the Deputy President. It’s clear they are doing someone’s bidding, and Gachagua should carry his own cross,” Nyutu said.
The senator also made serious claims that certain political actors had planned to exploit Raila Odinga’s death to ignite ethnic hostility in the country.
