Thousands of followers thronged the streets of Nakuru on Monday as they turned out in large numbers to welcome renowned televangelist Prophet Dr. David Owuor, fondly referred to by his supporters as “His Majesty.” The city witnessed scenes of jubilation, prayer and worship as crowds lined major roads, some waving banners while others sang hymns and blew trumpets to mark his arrival.
The massive reception brought traffic to a near standstill in parts of the town as Prophet Owuor’s convoy made its way through Nakuru amid tight security. Many of his followers, dressed predominantly in white robes, lay prostrate on the road or raised their hands in prayer as the cleric passed by, describing the moment as spiritually significant.
The welcome comes ahead of a major crusade at the Menengai Grounds, where the Prophet’s Ministry of Repentance and Holiness is set to host a large end-year prayer meeting expected to draw worshippers from across the country and beyond. Preparations at the venue were already underway, with buses ferrying believers into the town as early as dawn.
Supporters say the Prophet’s visit symbolizes a call to national repentance and spiritual renewal as the year comes to an end. “This is a special moment for Nakuru and for Kenya,” said one follower who travelled overnight from western Kenya to attend the gathering.
However, as has been the case in previous visits, the grand reception also sparked debate online, with critics questioning the growing personality cult around the cleric and the disruption caused by the large crowds. Despite the mixed reactions, the turnout once again underlined Prophet Owuor’s ability to mobilize huge numbers and his continued influence on Kenya’s religious landscape.
Local authorities urged residents to remain calm and cooperative as the city hosts the influx of visitors, assuring that security and traffic management measures have been put in place during the crusade period.
