A controversial TikToker who goes by the name General Mosquito has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). The arrest came after he posted a fiery TikTok video that quickly went viral online, where he appeared to issue threats and incite violence.
According to authorities, General Mosquito was arrested on Monday, August 4, in Miritini, a town in Mombasa County. Detectives say he had been hiding there after releasing a video clip that caused public alarm.

In the now-viral video, General Mosquito strongly defended Patrick Osoi, a former military officer, and Jackson Kihara, popularly known as Cop Shakur, a former prison warder. Both men had recently been arrested for their alleged role in forming a resistance movement against police brutality.
Mosquito called for their immediate release and issued a warning to President William Ruto. In a dramatic tone, he said:

“I warn you, Ruto, and I want you to listen to me carefully. Release Patrick Osoi. Release Cop Shakur. Do not tamper with the two officers.”
He didn’t stop there. The TikToker also claimed that if the two were not released, other former servicemen would rise up in retaliation. He added:
“We, as the forces, we are tired and we will fight our own. We are not civilians whom you can threaten with a shoot-to-kill order. We have our way. Release those two comrades if you want peace.”
These remarks alarmed both the public and security agencies, who saw them as dangerous incitement to violence.
During the arrest, DCI officers searched Mosquito’s residence and discovered suspicious items. Among them were two pairs of tactical combat fatigues, a notebook that read: “We are going to apply guerrilla resistance tactics. Justice to all freedom heroes”, three mobile phones, assorted documents, and links to a group called the Justice Direction Party.
The content of the video and the materials found in his home led the DCI to accuse him of attempting to stir up a movement against public order. He is currently being held in police custody and will soon be taken to court.
General Mosquito’s arrest follows that of Patrick Osoi, who was captured just days earlier. Osoi had allegedly created a resistance group with other former officers to protest police brutality. He now faces multiple charges, including: Preparing to commit a felony, Possession of an illegal firearm, Possession of ammunition without a valid certificate and Terrorism-related offenses.
Cop Shakur, who was mentioned in the TikTok video, is also reportedly under close watch by the authorities.
The DCI has emphasized that public incitement, especially on social media, will not be tolerated. They warn that any attempt to threaten national security will be met with immediate action.
The situation has sparked major discussions online, especially among young Kenyans, who are increasingly using platforms like TikTok to voice their frustrations and opinions.
While some have called Mosquito’s arrest a necessary step to prevent chaos, others argue it’s a sign of growing censorship and suppression of free speech under President Ruto’s administration.
As the investigation continues, many are waiting to see how the courts will handle this case and whether it will lead to more arrests of those linked to Mosquito’s statements or the so-called Justice Direction Party.
This incident is another reminder of the power of social media, and how words shared online can have real-world consequences. As Kenya continues to navigate complex issues of freedom, justice, and security, the balance between expression and incitement remains a delicate one.
