Legal War Breaks Out! Arsenal & Man United in Bitter Fight Over Viktor Gyokeres Transfer Drama

Viktor Gyokeres is at the center of one of the biggest and most bitter football transfer sagas this summer. The Swedish striker, who plays for Sporting Lisbon, is being chased by two of England’s biggest clubs, Arsenal and Manchester United. But the situation is turning ugly fast.

Gyokeres wants to leave Sporting Lisbon before the transfer window closes, but things are not going smoothly. The 27-year-old striker has even sent a legal letter to the club, accusing them of breaking a promise.

Arsenal have already agreed to pay an initial £55 million for the player, with an extra £8.6 million in bonuses and add-ons. That’s a total of over £63 million. But even after that agreement, the final deal has not been sealed because both sides cannot agree on how the payment will be made.

While Arsenal were trying to close the deal, Manchester United jumped in at the last minute. Reports from Portugal say United made a better offer worth between €70 million and €80 million, which is around £60 million to £69 million.

Manchester United want to reunite Gyokeres with their coach, Ruben Amorim, who used to work with him at Sporting. This surprise move has created more tension and confusion in the transfer process.

Now, it’s not just about money or contracts. Gyokeres’ relationship with Sporting Lisbon has completely broken down. He’s stopped showing up for training and says he will never play for the club again.

Sporting have started disciplinary action against him for going on strike. But Gyokeres has hit back by sending a legal letter through his lawyers. In the letter, he claims that Sporting’s president, Federico Varandas, went back on his word.

Gyokeres says there was a gentleman’s agreement between him and Varandas. According to Gyokeres, the president had promised to let him go if any club paid €60 million plus €10 million in bonuses. But now, Varandas says that promise was never made.

The club president has spoken openly to the media about the situation. He said that no club has made a serious offer for Gyokeres, not now, and not last season. He also warned that Gyokeres’ tactics won’t work.

“If they don’t want to pay Viktor’s fair market value, we’re okay with keeping him for the next three years,” Varandas said.

Gyokeres is still under contract with Sporting until 2028, so technically the club doesn’t have to sell him.

Varandas also made it clear that he won’t accept any threats, pressure, or blackmail. “You should know me by now. Threats, blackmail, and insults don’t work with me,” he said.

He added that the behavior of Gyokeres’ agent is only making things worse. The Sporting president says the agent is playing games that are damaging for both the player and the club.

Sporting believe they are acting in the club’s best interest. They want the highest fee possible for their star player. On the other hand, Gyokeres feels betrayed and just wants to move to a bigger club.

The legal battle and emotional fights in the media have shocked many fans. What looked like a regular transfer has now turned into a messy war between player and club, with Arsenal and Manchester United caught in the middle.

If Arsenal finally manage to close the deal, they will have one of Europe’s top strikers. But if United’s offer is better and accepted, Gyokeres might wear the red shirt at Old Trafford instead.

It’s still not clear who will win this transfer race. Both clubs have strong reasons to want Gyokeres. Arsenal need a reliable goal scorer. United want to rebuild with Ruben Amorim’s help.

Meanwhile, Gyokeres is still not training. His situation at Sporting seems impossible to fix. Fans are wondering if this drama will affect his future performance.

This saga also raises questions about player power in modern football. Can a player really force a move, even with years left on his contract?

The market closes soon, and we will finally learn if Gyokeres will go to Arsenal, Manchester United, or stay at Sporting against his will.

For now, this story is not just about football. It’s about trust, broken promises, and power struggles, on and off the pitch.
