The family of murdered teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang is pleading with the government to offer them immediate and adequate protection as they pursue justice, raising fears of potential threats and interference surrounding the high-profile case.
Through their lawyer, Julius Juma, the family voiced deep concern over their safety, citing the sensitive nature of the matter and the powerful individuals allegedly implicated in Ojwang’s brutal killing.

“We want to be assured of our safety as we fight for justice for Albert Ojwang. Everyone on the family side, including me, feels vulnerable,” said Juma.
“I am asking for protection for the family and myself, because we do not know who we are dealing with in this quest for justice.” he added

Juma’s statement comes amid intensifying investigations by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), which is currently interviewing witnesses at various police stations across Nairobi and surrounding areas. The lawyer warned of possible interference with both the evidence and the witnesses, urging investigative authorities to act with integrity and transparency.
“All evidence should be protected and there should be no interference with investigations or witnesses,” Juma emphasized.
“Investigation departments should do their job without outside pressure or instructions.”
Tensions escalated further following damning testimony from a police officer stationed at Nairobi Central Police Station, who alleged that senior officers orchestrated Ojwang’s torture.
Constable James Mukhwana, a former cell guard, testified to IPOA that the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), Samson Talaam, had informed him of Ojwang’s detention and instructed him to mobilize other prisoners to beat him, a shocking claim that points to a possible chain of command in the blogger’s killing.
The case has already drawn significant public and media attention, particularly after previous reports tied senior police officials to the incident, and now, with allegations of witness intimidation and evidence tampering, the stakes have risen even higher.
Civil society organizations and human rights defenders have echoed the family’s plea, urging the government to not only ensure their safety but also guarantee a credible, transparent investigation into what many now suspect was a politically motivated killing.
As calls for justice grow louder, the country watches closely. Will Kenya’s justice system rise to the occasion, or will another name be added to the growing list of unresolved extrajudicial killings?
