The mystery surrounding the brutal death of Kenyan blogger Albert Ojwang continues to deepen, with the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) now turning its spotlight on a shocking list of senior police officers and insiders suspected of orchestrating and covering up the murder.

Ojwang, who died while in custody at Nairobi’s Central Police Station, was initially reported to have taken his own life. But disturbing new findings from IPOA investigations reveal a chilling reality: the death may have been a calculated killing involving top officers and a carefully planned cover-up.

Among those under active investigation are: Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, OCS Benjamin Talam and his Deputy Samuel Ng’ang’a, Six Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers involved in Ojwang’s arrest, Police Constable Juma Mukwana, alleged to have led the assault on the blogger.

The Central OCPD, A technical officer from IPOA itself, ICT technician Kevin Mutisya, suspected of deleting key CCTV footage, Police spokesperson Muchiri Nyagah, who may have participated in controlling the narrative are also being investigated.

This wide net of suspects includes not only those directly involved in Ojwang’s detention but also officials within the very institutions charged with upholding accountability and justice.

According to sources close to the investigation, IPOA detectives believe Ojwang was tortured to death while in police custody, a theory supported by witness accounts and emerging forensic evidence. Constable Juma Mukwana is said to have coordinated the brutal assault and also oversaw efforts to dismantle and destroy surveillance systems that would have exposed the crime.

Most alarming is the alleged involvement of an IPOA technical officer, who reportedly assisted in deleting the security footage, a move that raises serious concerns about the integrity and independence of the oversight body itself. If true, it would point to deep-rooted collusion and a compromised system incapable of protecting citizens from state-sanctioned abuse.

The inclusion of a police ICT technician, Kevin Mutisya, in the list of suspects, underscores the methodical nature of the cover-up. Surveillance cameras, the very tools meant to guarantee transparency, were allegedly wiped clean to erase traces of wrongdoing.

This unfolding scandal has ignited public outrage and demands for immediate action. Many are questioning how high up the chain of command the conspiracy goes, and whether the justice system can rise above internal corruption to deliver accountability.

For now, IPOA insists that the probe is ongoing and that all those involved, regardless of rank or affiliation, will be held accountable.
