The controversy surrounding the Odinga family has intensified after a woman who claims to be a younger wife of Kenya’s founding vice president Jaramogi Oginga Odinga escalated her allegations, now demanding that Winnie Odinga surrender properties and assets registered in Raila Odinga’s name.
In a series of viral social media posts and videos, the woman alleges that Winnie Odinga and the late Fidel Odinga are not the biological children of Raila Odinga, insisting they were born during periods when Raila was either imprisoned or held in political detention. She argues that, based on this claim, Winnie has no moral or legal right to hold or benefit from properties linked to Raila Odinga, including title deeds and other family assets.
According to the woman, any property currently associated with Winnie Odinga under Raila’s name should be “returned,” a demand that has sparked outrage and disbelief among many Kenyans online. No evidence has been provided to back the property claims, nor has any court process been cited to support her demands.
The allegations go further into sensitive family history. The woman claims that during the period in question, Raila Odinga allegedly sought to chase away Ida Odinga together with the children, questioning their parentage. She alleges that the situation was only resolved after Jaramogi Oginga Odinga intervened, insisting that Ida and the children remain within the family and be fully recognized.

These assertions have drawn sharp criticism, with many observers describing them as deeply inflammatory and revisionist, accusing the woman of dragging private family matters into the public domain without proof. Others have questioned her claimed status within the Odinga family, noting that no official family member or historian has publicly acknowledged her position.
Public records and long-standing biographical accounts consistently recognize Raila Odinga and his wife Ida Odinga as the parents of Fidel, Winnie, Rosemary, and Raila Odinga Jr. To date, no court ruling, DNA evidence, or credible media investigation has challenged this widely accepted account.
None of the members of the Odinga family has responded publicly to the allegations. Legal experts warn that demands involving property ownership and inheritance, when based solely on unverified claims, risk serious legal and defamation implications.
As the claims continue to circulate online, many Kenyans are calling for restraint, urging the public to distinguish between documented history and unsubstantiated social media narratives, and warning against spreading allegations that could cause lasting harm to individuals and families.
