Bongo flava star Zuchu has revealed that she has no plans to leave WCB Wasafi Records, even as other major artists have exited the label in recent years. The singer, who is in a relationship with WCB founder Diamond Platnumz, says she is happy where she is and fully committed to the label that shaped her music career.

“I wish all those who left all the best. I understand that at some point in life, you yearn for growth. But as for me, I don’t think I have any reason to want to leave WCB. After all, I got something going on between me and the label’s boss (in a relationship),” she said.

A Lucrative Yet Costly Contract

Zuchu officially joined WCB in April 2020, following a lengthy probation period. Since then, she has grown into one of East Africa’s most successful female artists, generating millions of views and streams across digital platforms.

WCB’s contracts with artists are known to be strict. The label reportedly takes 60 percent of the total revenue generated, leaving 40 percent to the artist. This setup has been criticized by some former signees who felt the deal was exploitative — yet it reflects the label’s heavy investment in branding, production, and promotion.

In 2022, Diamond Platnumz disclosed that Zuchu would need to pay TSh10 billion (approximately Sh523 million) to terminate her contract before its expiry — one of the most expensive artist buyout clauses in East Africa’s music history.

A History of Big Exits at WCB

WCB has seen several high-profile departures in recent years.

Harmonize, the label’s first signee, left in 2019, claiming the 60–40 split was unfair. He reportedly paid TSh500 million (Sh25 million) to buy out his 10-year contract.

Rayvanny followed in July 2022, after six years under the label, buying out his contract for over Sh50 million.

Mbosso Khan also considered leaving, but Diamond refused to accept his offer to buy out the remaining period of his deal.

Rumors continue to swirl that Lava Lava may also be eyeing an exit after struggling to achieve the same level of success as other WCB stars despite significant investment from the label.

Zuchu Remains WCB’s Brightest Star

With most of its original lineup gone, Zuchu now stands as the label’s top-earning and most bankable artist. Her continued loyalty is crucial to WCB’s dominance in the Bongo flava scene.

“The label has done so much for me. I’m still growing, and I believe this is where I’m meant to be,” Zuchu said in a recent interview.

Industry insiders note that the Sh523 million contract termination fee underscores WCB’s belief in Zuchu’s market value — and the label’s determination to protect its investment in her rise to stardom.

WCB’s Legacy in East African Music

Despite recent exits, Diamond Platnumz’s WCB Wasafi remains one of the continent’s most powerful music brands, having shaped stars who dominate streaming charts across Africa. With Zuchu at the forefront, the label continues to redefine Bongo flava and set new standards for artist development in the region.
