Police officers in Diani, Kwale County, have arrested a 36-year-old woman after recovering a significant quantity of bhang in what authorities described as a well-coordinated, intelligence-led operation.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect, identified as Hellen Saru Mwajombo, was intercepted by detectives who had been trailing her movements. Upon conducting a search, officers recovered two green gunny bags stuffed with multiple rolls of cannabis sativa, believed to have been prepared for distribution.

The suspect later led detectives to a nearby residence, where a more thorough search uncovered additional rolls of bhang concealed inside a black bag and another green gunny bag, reinforcing suspicions that the house was being used as a storage and distribution point for the illegal drug.

Police also impounded a white Nissan Note, registration number KDS 092K, which investigators believe was being used to transport the narcotics within the South Coast region. The vehicle is currently being held as an exhibit as investigations continue.

The DCI said the arrest forms part of ongoing operations targeting drug trafficking networks operating in coastal towns, which have remained a major concern for security agencies due to their links to crime and youth drug abuse.

Detectives are now pursuing leads to establish whether the suspect was acting alone or as part of a wider network. She is expected to be arraigned in court to face drug-related charges once investigations are completed.
