Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni was sworn in for a seventh term in office after winning the country’s most recent presidential election.

The inauguration ceremony took place in Kololo and was attended by several regional and international leaders, senior military officials, and supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

Among the dignitaries present were Félix Tshisekedi, Taye Atske Selassie, Brahim Ghali, Faure Gnassingbé, Salva Kiir Mayardit, Samia Suluhu Hassan, and Évariste Ndayishimiye, alongside other government officials and diplomats. Rwanda was represented by Prime Minister Justin Nsengiyumva.

In his inaugural speech, Museveni pledged to continue prioritizing national security, economic growth, and infrastructure development, including roads, electricity, and industrial expansion.

Museveni has remained in power for decades, having taken control of Uganda in 1986 following an armed struggle led by the National Resistance Army (NRA). His latest inauguration further cements his position as one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders.

While his supporters credit him with bringing stability and economic progress to Uganda, critics and opposition groups have continued to raise concerns over the country’s electoral processes and political environment. Opposition figures argue that challenges related to democracy, political freedoms, and governance still persist.

During this new term, Museveni’s administration is expected to maintain its focus on economic development, internal security, and strengthening Uganda’s relations with neighboring countries across the region.
